Collection: Climbers

Climbing hydrangeas and their close relatives, part of the hydrangeoid family, are known for their ability to climb walls, trees, and other structures, adding vertical interest to gardens. They predominantly feature elegant white lacecap blooms and originate from regions such as the Himalayas, Japan, Korea, China, and Mexico.

The hardiness of these climbers varies by species:

  • Hydrangea seemannii and H. integrifolia: Hardy in USDA zones 7 to 9.
  • Decumaria barbara and Schizophragma hydrangeoides: Hardy in USDA zones 5 to 9.
  • Hydrangea quelpartensis and H. anomala ssp. petiolaris: Hardy in USDA zones 4 to 9.

These plants are versatile and ideal for adding greenery and seasonal blooms to vertical surfaces. They prefer rich, well-draining soil and can tolerate partial to full shade, making them excellent for shaded walls or fences. Their blooms attract pollinators, enhancing their ecological value alongside their ornamental beauty.
