Dear Hydrangea enthusiasts,

Welcome to the August 2010 newsletter for Hydrangea Plus®.

What’s Happening at Hydrangeas Plus®

Unless you didn’t notice, I missed June and July.  I really don’t have an urgent excuse other than I was super busy around here and didn’t have a chance to sit down and jot down my musings.

Here’s a taste of what we’ve been doing on…

We continue the rebuild 3 of the houses we lost in 2008 (only 2 left to start)

Build the display garden hardscapes, irrigation and pathways.

Propagate plants for our 2011 fall crop.

Watching for critters, fungus and blooms.

Taking pictures for next year’s catalog.

Relocating some cultivars in the nursery for better performance.

Testing some of the new varieties on the market and varieties coming to market

Count, cut, align and fertilize the 1 year, 2 year and 3 year plants

Oh, and swimming, bible camp, Camp fire camp and playing with friends.

I can’t wait for school to start again so I can take a break.

Weather has been super cool, unlike any other part of the country.  We had just a few hot days and expected to get two more days over 90 degrees this weekend.  Ideal conditions for the hydrangeas and for people.

Display Garden

It is beginning to take shape.  We have had some challenges with the water and irrigation pipes breaking under the weight of the big trucks so our hope for a summer blooming garden was postponed.  We finally had the fence installed so no one (including yours truly) falls off the eight foot walls.  I got dizzy just looking down.  We have sunny places and shady places and many shunny places that hydrangeas love.  I can’t wait to show you all the progress.  I’m trying to come up with a fancy name for the garden but don’t have the perfect one.

FaceBook and Twitter

Welcome new Facebook subscribers.  We now have almost 6000 fans.  If you haven’t posted your favorite summer hydrangea picture to our facebook page, please do so!  We’d love to hear from you.  We offer videos, specials, related articles and hydrangea happenings as we hear about them.  Just search for Hydrangeas Plus while logged in to Facebook or go to http://www.facebook.com/hydrangeasplus.   We are also on Twitter at http://twitter.com/hydrangeasplus, still can’t get over that name but a great way to keep up with the happenings in our little hydrangea heaven part of the world.
