PANICULATA
These very hardy hydrangeas are native to Japan and China but many new varieties are coming from the United States and Europe breeding programs. Blooms are large pyramids with sterile and fertile flowers in clusters that range from six to eighteen inches long. The flowers appear in late summer and remain on the plant for many months. Most experience dramatic color changes in the fall months. The leaves are usually slender and somewhat rough to the touch. Blooms come from new wood and studies show most are hardy to zone 3.
